1.5 Why is a HRCLD approach useful for NHRIs?
Human rights work aims to make human rights (and responsibilities) a reality for us all. Independent
and effective NHRIs are powerful agents for change. Among other things, they are charged with:
•
developing a universal culture of human rights, where everyone is aware of their own rights and
responsibilities in respect of the rights of others, and
•
contributing to the prevention of human rights violations and abuses.
This can be achieved by using a HRCLD approach.
