3. THE WAY FORWARD The role of protection of human rights is and will be continued to be carried out by the Commission through its Complaints and Monitoring Division. Several inquiries into complaints which have yet to be completed in the year will continue to be followed-up by the Division in 2018. This will include the public inquiry into the disappearance of individuals. The Division will also expand its monitoring visits to other detention centres such as military centres to ensure that the human rights standards are complied with by the detaining authorities. Realising that such a duty is not easy to be executed, the Commission has charted some plans to empower the Complaints and Monitoring Division with more resources and capacity development programmes.
