OVERVIEW
In 2017, the Commission received a total of 803 complaints, monitored 8
public assemblies and 3 eviction cases and conducted 18 monitoring visits
to places of detention.
Following the publication of two research reports in the previous year, namely
‘Deaths in Police Custody: A Study on the Conditions of Lock-Ups and Factors
Contributing to Death’ and ‘Prison Healthcare in Malaysia: Results of a
Nationwide Survey and Report’, the Commission organised two round-table
discussions on 21 March and 25 October, respectively, as a follow-up to the
reports. The Commission also held several meetings with relevant agencies
and organisations as part of the Commission’s efforts in resolving complaints.
