On 20 September 2016, the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired, or Otherwise Print Disabled has entered into force in the Republic of Korea. Provide detailed measures adopted and plans of the government, in accordance with the commencement of the Korean Sign Language Act and the Braille Act, to improve education and promotion of the Korean sign language, and to ensure access to and use of all information for persons with visual impairment through Braille. 65. As the Marrakesh Treaty entered into force in the Republic of Korea, provide detailed measures and plans of the government to facilitate the availability of works in accessible format copies for persons with visual impairments. Article 24- Education Current status 66. According to the Ministry of Education, 87,950 students required special education in 2016. Out of the total number of students, 30 percent of students were enrolled in 170 special schools. The Ministry released its plans to establish 6 new special school in 2017, aiming to reach 176 special schools in total. 67. In order to increase the opportunity for life-long learning, the Lifelong Education Act (LEA) was revised in 29 May 2016.
