When asked about their current practice of advocating and promoting sound policy measures
from a human rights perspective, the six NHRIs are evenly split into three categories – to a
great extent (Bangladesh, India), to some extent (Nepal, Pakistan), and very little (Maldives, Sri
Lanka) (Figure 8). There is a recognition that current NHRIs practice does not give adequate
attention to advocate for the integration of local communities’ expertise and traditional
knowledge of indigenous peoples on climate action policies. Half of the six NHRIs (Maldives,
Pakistan, Sri Lanka) indicated that they do not do it very effectively, while only one (India) said
they do it effectively (Figure 9).
