NHRIs Profiles and CCMA-related Practices Based on the three sources of data for this Needs Assessment – online survey, interviews, and desk review – individual profiles of NHRIs practice in the area of monitoring, investigating, reporting and advising in relation to CCMA initiatives have been developed as below. The profiles provide the context of the NHRIs and their current practices, challenges and capacity needs in relation to CCMA initiatives. They also highlight the extent to which NHRIs are integrating human rights, gender equality, as well as environmental and human mobility considerations into their work. Additionally, these profiles offer insight into potential areas for capacity-building and collaborative approaches to enhance NHRIs’ effectiveness in monitoring and advising relevant government agencies in the area of CCMA and the impacts on human rights. National Human Rights Commission of Bangladesh The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of Bangladesh was established in 2008 and later reconstituted in 2009 under the National Human Rights Commission Act.63 The NHRC is tasked with investigating allegations of human rights violations, advising the government on legal and policy reforms, and promoting awareness and education on human rights issues. Its role includes addressing a wide range of human rights concerns, such as violence against women, freedom of speech, the rights of minorities, and issues related to climate change and human mobility.64 Despite its contributions in many areas of human rights promotion and protection, the Commission has faced challenges, including limited resources, organisational capacity constraints, and staffing.
