3.3. Data Sources and Data Collection
Interviews were conducted with the focal points from all six NHRIs. The semi-structured
interviews included questions which covered the current practices of NHRIs in monitoring,
investigation, reporting, and advising on CCMA initiatives, inclusive policies, political will and
risks, protection of human rights defenders (HRDs), gender considerations, coordination and
collaboration, and capacity gaps and future capacity needs.
A desk review was also used to capture and map out the existing data, particularly in relation
to current climate change and mitigation and adaptation policies, strategies and guidelines
used in the targeted countries, NHRIs practices in relation to CCMA-related monitoring,
investigation, and advising. References were made to national websites related to climate
change policies as well as NHRIs reports relevant to the Needs Assessment and Gap
Analysis.
