A lack of interest in maritime work among the Taiwanese people has resulted in a serious shortage of labor in the fishery industry. FA statistics indicated that foreign fishermen have come to account for most of the manpower aboard Taiwan’s distant water fishing ships over the last decade or so. They now employ nearly 20,000 foreign fishermen with Foreign fishermen sorting the catch by the harbor.
