1.6 Strengthening channels for human rights complaints

Reason for selection
1)
In Point 12 of the concluding observations on Taiwan’s Third
National Report on the Two Covenants, the IRC recommended
that the NHRC should foster trust and respect among the people
by carefully handling human rights complaints and investigating
persistently recurring human rights infringement accusations.
2)
In Point 79f of its concluding observations on Taiwan’s Second
National Report on the CRPD, the IRC recommended the
establishment of an independent system for handling complaints
of abuse, violence, and maltreatment targeted at persons with
disabilities.
3)
In Points 10, 23, and 24 of the concluding observations on
Taiwan’s Fourth National Report on CEDAW, the IRC
recommended that the NHRC should establish an independent
system for accepting and handling human rights complaints as
soon as possible, with the possibility of offering immediate relief
and remedy to victims of human rights infringement.
4)
In Point 14 of the concluding observations on Taiwan’s Second
National Report on the CRC, the IRC recommended that the
government continue to improve the complaint mechanism to
ensure ease of access, confidentiality, and independence, and that
the appropriate relief and remedial measures are provided to
young people.
