The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), an elite force, formed to ameliorate law and order situations, has committed numerous extrajudicial killings since its inception on March 26, 2004. Although the RAB achieved limited success in destroying the ring of outlawed underground groups as well as outlawed religious fanatic groups, in many instances the RAB ignored the due process of law while conducting its operations. The deaths, under some unusual circumstances, occurred during raids, arrests, and other law enforcement operations, or, in some cases, while the accused were in custody.
