The Human Rights Commission taking into consideration fact that Sri Lanka is a Signatory State to the UN Convention on Rights of Disabled focused its attention on the study of current laws and practices on the protection of rights of persons with disabilities. An opportunity was further provided by the Commission to identify the needs and views of the disabled persons by holding a national dialogue for the public and NGOs on 12th December 2013 jointly with the UN Human Rights Programme. In the meantime, the Commission informed the Government that Bills relating to rights of this vulnerable group should be reconsidered. As a result, the government decided to consider the facts submitted by the persons with disabilities before adopting the legislation. 32
