Training Module on the Right to Mental Health for the Security Sector handle clientele who themselves are undergoing high levels of stress, and sometimes are undergoing mental health crisis, the service providers need to be their healthiest selves, find passion and motivation in their jobs and likewise be capacitated to provide support to people in the aftermath of crisis events. When dealing with burnout, active coping is as important as intervention, which may be individual, organization-related, a combination or interaction of the two. The CHR has partnered with mental health experts in developing interventions and expanding the service to mental, neurological, and substance use disorders as well. Also, CHR embarks on promotion of mental health and prevention of psychological disorders. This project is specifically designed for the members of the security sector in the country, including the military and police authorities, to provide a certain kind of motivation and job stress mitigating strategies. Furthermore, it is the aim of this module to capacitate the security sector to provide psychological and emotional support for their clients if needed. Who is part of the Security Sector? The security sector is comprised of all the structures, institutions, and personnel responsible for security provision, management, and oversight on national and local levels. The security sector includes both actors that use force and those responsible for controlling how force is used through management and oversight. These actors are state security providers and those responsible for security management and oversight, which includes civil society. The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is responsible for upholding the sovereignty of the country, supporting its Constitution, and defending its territory against all enemies. It is composed of the Philippine Army, the Philippine Navy, and the Philippine Air Force. Philippine Army The mission of the Philippine Army is to “organize, train, equip, deploy and sustain ground forces in the conduct of support to operations to “win the peace” in order to help the Filipino nation create an environment conducive for sustainable development and just and lasting peace”. Philippine Air Force The Philippine Air Force mandate is to “organize, train, equip, maintain and provide forces in order to conduct prompt and sustained air operations to accomplish the AFP mission.” Philippine Navy Philippine Navy mission is “to organize trains and equip, deploy and maintain forces for prompt and sustained naval and maritime operations in support of the Unified Commands in the accomplishment of the AFP mission.” 3
