In addition, the NIHR, as stipulated in its Establishment Law, may submit parallel reports of the
national (state) reports that the Honorable Government undertakes to submit periodically to the
United Nations treaty bodies.
5. To fulfill the commitments, the Government has submitted its Initial National Report on the
progress made in the implementation of the provisions of the International Covenant on Civil and
Political Rights. The NIHR has also submitted its parallel report on the contents of that report.
The National Report of the Kingdom of Bahrain was discussed before the United Nations Human
Rights Committee during its 123rd session, which extended from 2-20 July of this year.
6. The NIHR urged the House of Representatives to push the Government to submit its Initial Report
on the progress made in the implementation of the provisions of the International Covenant on
Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights, which was due since December 2009, thus further enhancing
and protecting human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
