number of clash have been held in Rohingya Camp located at Tumbru border area. Two
Rohingya leaders were killed in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar. This type of incidence is nothing
new. However, NHRC acknowledges the diplomatic efforts of government in
international forums. NHRC along with government is also doing advocacy in several
national and international forums. In 8th June 2022, NHRC organized a roundtable on
“Peaceful Repatriation of Rohingyas in Myanmar: Challenges and way Forward” and
emphasized on initiatives to peacefully repatriate Rohingyas to Myanmar.
2.2 Extrajudicial Killings
In 2022, the number of extrajudicial Killings has reduced significantly. However,
some incidences of extrajudicial Killings have been noticed. Among them
we can mention about Killing of RAB enlisted terrorist Shahin and Raju,
murderer of Journalist Nayeem in cross fire. NHRC believes that any kind of
extrajudicial killing is a gross human rights violation. It is the state who must prevent
this violation. NHRC is continuing it’s advocacy so that state takes effective measures
for reducing it to zero level.
2.3 Rights of Minorities
On 26 April 2022, the Lama Rubber Industries set fire to cropland owned by Mro
ethnic community. Among them, people of Langkom para, Rengyen Para and
Joychandrapara were effected badly. Mro and Tripura community cultivated jhum in
400 acres of land in that place. The rubber industries set fire to 350 acres of their crops.
In that time, these communities were in food and financial crisis. The affected people
filed cases against the relevant people of that company and they were arrested. The
NHRC also took step and instructed Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of
Police to take legal action and rehabilitate the affected people.
On the other hand, NHRC also noticed attack on Hindu people. Media reported that on
15 July 2022, several homes, shops and temples of the Hindu community were attacked
and set on fire over a Facebook post allegedly belittling Islam at Lohagora, Narail.
NHRC believes that such attacks are not acceptable in a secular country like
Bangladesh. NHRC thinks that such heinous crimes are being committed repeatedly to
create instability in the country. If someone insults religion, it is appropriate to bring
him under the law.
