NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION, INDIA CHAPTER 2 2.1 HIGHLIGHTS The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India was established on 12 October, 1993. Its mandate is contained in the Protection of Human Rights Act (PHRA),1993 as amended vide the Protection of Human Rights (Amendment) Act (PHRA),2006. The constitution of NHRC is in conformity with the Paris Principles that was adopted at the first International Workshop on National Institutions for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights organized in Paris in October, 1991, and endorsed by the General Assembly of the United Nations in Resolution 48/134 of 20 December, 1993.The Commission is a symbol of India’s concern for the promotion and protection of human rights. Given below are the highlights of the Commission during the period under report. The Launch of a Revamped Website of NHRC The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi launching the new version of the NHRC website on 12 October, 2018 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi 2.2 NHRC has re-designed and re-developed its website as per GIGW guidelines using CMF framework with the technical assistance of NIC. The revamped website was launched on 12 October, 2018 by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. The website is now more user-friendly, ANNUAL REPORT 2018-19 3
