29 Part Two: Te Ūpoko Tuarua In response to the history of colonisation, white supremacy and racism, Maranga Mai! renews the call for restoring self-determination for Māori and constitutional certainty through reform. The need for constitutional transformation is primarily based on the vision first laid out in Te Tiriti o Waitangi and articulated in Matike Mai Aotearoa. Such a model would allow for tangata whenua governance of their affairs (rangatiratanga), Crown governance of its affairs (kāwanatanga), and a joint relational sphere to deliberate upon matters of mutual concern. Principles of reconciliation would underpin this vision. It also makes the case for why constitutional transformation and the establishment of a Truth, Reconciliation and Justice Commission in Aotearoa is needed to eliminate racism. Human Rights Commission
