The Commission closed the case on 12 July 2022. 4.) Tragic Acid A ack in Mathura, U ar Pradesh: One Dead, Two Injured "acid a ack vic m", and there was no men on of the quantum of the acid a ack. Hence, even with only two per cent injury, she was en tled to compensa on. Pursuant to further direc ons from the Commission, SSP Mathura, U ar Pradesh, had submi ed the report of CO City, Mathura, along with enclosures, which had revealed that the NoK of the deceased had been paid Rs. 10 lakh in compensa on. Further compensa on of Rs. 3,00,000/had been sanc oned by the Department of Women and Child Welfare in favour of the injured. With these direcons, the case was closed on 30 September 2022. (Case No: 32558/24/52/2016) The Commission received an in ma on on 22 August 2016, alleging that the accused persons had thrown acid on the vic ms, two sisters, and their mother on 14 July 2016. The vic ms had sustained grievous injuries, and despite the complaint, the police had not taken any ac on against the accused persons. Moreover, the accused persons had further threatened the complainant with the same consequence. In response to the Commission's direc ves, reports were received from the relevant authori es. The report received from the SP (Crime/Nodal Officer HR), District Mathura, stated that a case was registered against the accused person. The remaining accused had surrendered before the court, and the charge sheet against them had also been filed in court. The Commission, a er considering the material placed on record, had directed the SP (Crime/Nodal Officer HR), District Mathura, to consider the guidelines of the Supreme Court regarding compensaon in acid a ack cases provided in Laxmi's case (2015) 5 SCC 77 and to assist the NoK of the deceased in obtaining compensa on from the District Legal Services Authority under Sec on 357A of the Cr.PC within four weeks. In response, the SSP (Crime/Nodal Officer HR), District Mathura, had informed the Commission that a compensaon of Rs. 10 lakh had already been paid to the parents of the deceased, and a sum of Rs. 3 lakh had also been sanc oned. However, no compensa on could be granted to one sister due to only two per cent acid a ack. The Commission had considered the material placed on record and had noted that, according to the Supreme Court's direc ons, the minimum compensa on for a vic m of acid a ack was Rs. 3 lakh. The main objec ve of the Conference was to derive recommenda ons/ ac onable points for policy makers, intermediaries including content hosts, law enforcements agencies, etc. a er having due delibera ons among the stakeholders. The Conference was a ended by the representa ves of the Government, state police and cyber cell units, interna onal bodies including the United Na ons India, United Na ons Children's Fund (UNICEF), United Na ons Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Office of the United Na ons High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), etc., intermediaries including the Internet Service Providers (ISPs), domain experts and members of the civil society. The Inaugural Session of the Conference was addressed by the Chief Guest Shri Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of Law and Jus ce, while the Valedictory Session was addressed by Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Hon'ble Minister of State for Electronics and IT and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India.
