OHCHR 3rd Environmental HRD Forum Held in September 2023, the 3rd Asia Pacific Environmental Human Rights Defenders (EHRDs) Forum provided a platform for discussing regional trends in environmental rights. The APF contributed to a session on ‘Improving Protection through Data,’ sharing insights from our RAP and the Right to Defend Rights tool. 10th Asian Regional HRDs Forum Held in November 2023, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this event, organised by FORUM-ASIA, celebrated the 75th anniversary of the UDHR. We highlighted our RAP and monitoring tool for HRDs during discussions aimed at supporting the work of HRDs in challenging contexts. Qatar International Conference on Food Justice We participated in a conference on food justice in Doha in February 2024, organised by the NHRI of Qatar. The conference gathered over 600 participants to explore a human rights-based approach to global food crises and develop recommendations for action. SDGs in the Asia Pacific We contributed to shaping the latest UNDP profile on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16, which aims to promote peaceful and inclusive societies, ensure access to justice, and build effective, accountable institutions. As part of an external reference group, APF members helped incorporate diverse perspectives, insights, and analyses. This initiative offered a valuable opportunity for our member NHRIs to share their unique experiences and data. The SDG Goal Profiles were reviewed during multi-stakeholder roundtable discussions at the Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD), held from 20–23 February in Bangkok, Thailand, which brought together governments, civil society, and other stakeholders to assess SDG progress. Promoting Autism Awareness and the Role of NHRIs In April 2024, in partnership with the NHRI of Oman, we hosted a webinar on the rights of people with autism spectrum disorder. Discussions focused on strategies to enhance support for individuals with autism, including unified approaches, legislative advancements, and public awareness campaigns. Philippines Conference on Inter-NHRI Inquiry Mechanism In June 2024, we participated in a conference in Quezon City, focusing on transboundary human rights issues and the effectiveness of existing protection mechanisms. United Nations Open-ended Working Group on Older Persons We attended the fourteenth session in New York from 20-24 May 2024, advocating for the expanded participation rights of A-status NHRIs. 73% APF Annual Report 2023-24 of APF members have undertaken regional advocacy on priority human rights issues (Gender equality, Climate change, HRDs and civic space).
