Contributions and Submissions In 2019, Malaysia welcomed several country visits from Special Rapporteurs, namely: • • • • Special Rapporteur in the field of Cultural Rights, Ms. Karima Bennoune; Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar, Ms. Yanghee Lee; Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues, Dr. Fernand de Varennes ; and Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights, Professor Philip Alston Meeting with the Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights, Professor Philip Alston, during his country visit to Malaysia. In the meetings with the Special Rapporteurs, SUHAKAM provided independent observations, made recommendations and highlighted complaints received concerning the issues concerned. As an ‘A’ status NHRI, SUHAKAM utilised its participatory rights at the Human Rights Council sessions through oral and video intervention statements. During the 40th Session of the Human Rights Council (25 February to 22 March 2019), SUHAKAM delivered its statements during the adoption of Malaysia’s UPR Working Group Report, the report of the visit by the Special Rapporteur on the Sale and Sexual Exploitation of Children, and report of the visit by the Special Rapporteur in the Field of Cultural Rights.
