working in the informal economy, including children aged between 5 and 14, who are excluded
from the coverage of existing labor and social security legislation. The Committee on the Rights
of the Child (2OOg) found a high number of child workers between the age of 5 and 14, who
work in hazardous or dangerous conditions and are exposed to various forms of sexual and
economic exploitation, including the worst forms of child labor.
The Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (2008) also found low levels of
minimum wages, particularly in the agricultural sector, which are insutficient to provide an
adequate standard of living for workers and their families. The Committee also noted infrequent
and ineffective inspections of workplaces.
