The respondents were among nationals from 27 countries. 87 per cent
(4722 prisoners) were Malaysian. Out of the total 5,479 respondents, only
5,455 responded to this question (See Graph 2).

Malays represented the largest ethnic group in prison (67 per cent, 3164
prisoners) followed by Indians (12 per cent, 553 prisoners) (Table 2).

was 4,719 out of the total of 4,722).
