17 Social Security Coverage The provision of social security coverage was also not universal. While most respondents reported that they are enrolled in government-recognized social security schemes, a sizable portion does not receive any coverage. Verification of remittances is done through various means (through the Social Security Service or SSS, payslips, apps, emails, and direct inquiries from the employer). However, it is interesting to note that several answers for verification and the basis of the contribution noted how some respondents were unsure how these were made. On the other hand, the vast majority of respondents (82.4%) shared that they receive payslips indicating their wage deductions. Figure 7: Extent of Social Protection Paid Leaves In terms of available sick and vacation leaves, the majority of respondents answered in the negative. Furthermore, 42.9% shared that their company had yet to explain the process of filing for sickness benefits from the SSS. Of those that answered the question of additional company benefits, the vast majority claimed they did not receive anything beyond those mandated by the law. Although, a few did share that they were given a midyear bonus, health, travel, and rice allowances, as well as allowances for uniforms, groceries, and medical check-ups through their unions.
