Chapter 1 - Report of the Education and Public Relations Group The Commission notes that most of the schools visited in 2014 have to some extent successfully incorporated the programme into their activities. SMK Muhibbah, Perak is another role model school for HRBPS besides SMK Taman Tun Dr Ismail, WP. The MOE has initiated a programme named ‘Transformasi Asrama’ and SMK Muhibbah has incorporated HRBPS ideas into this programme. This programme has become so successful that the Perak State Education Department is using it as a benchmark for other school hostels. Due to the success of this programme, the hostel has received many visitors from schools both in and outside of Perak, as well as high-ranking officers from Putrajaya. The school’s Master Trainer has been invited by many schools and departments to share its success stories. The school has also set up a website which shares information on their activities. SMK Tok Labu, Penang, has managed to achieve a breakthrough in tackling issues concerning discipline after the Principal attended the HRBPS seminar in 2013. The Commission was also invited by the school to share the best practices of other schools with the teachers. The Commission was informed that there has been a vast improvement in attendance and a drop in vandalism as a result of this programme. SK Penderas, Temerloh, Pahang, is an Orang Asli (OA) school. This programme has placed the school on the Pahang State Education Department’s map. The school has been working with the community and has frequently included the parents and surrounding community by inviting them to take part in and contribute to the school’s activities. This has resulted in the parents and community realising the importance of education. To enhance the children’s confidence and self-esteem, the school has taken part in various competitions organized by the district and state Education Departments. The Commission noted that the children were active and capable of interacting with teachers and the surrounding community. One of the aims of HRBPS in Orang Asli schools is to encourage character building and personality development, and the school has been successful in achieving this objective. The Commission has also seen positive changes at SK Bukit Kemandul, Selangor, and SK Ulu Geruntum, Perak. After a recent visit, it was observed that the children were active and sociable, and vandalism was on the decline. SJKT Sg Pelek, Selangor, has become a very informative school where posters giving information on human rights are displayed in classrooms, corridors and notice boards. The school also encourages mass participation of students in school and community activities. This school has an inclusive approach and thus parents and the community are always invited to contribute and participate in school activities. The school is very active in conducting activities such as Hari Merdeka celebrations, Annual Sports Day, Co-Curricular Activity Day, Deepavali Day celebrations, Children’s Day celebrations and PTA Annual Meeting.
