Ministry of Public Defense further stated that on this occasion, all the people are requested to take action to maintain peace and refrain from acts of violence.”50 2.6.2 The situation at Rambukkana on 20th April A news article that appeared on Sinhala media described that security was increased at the fuel station in Rambukkana where the incident occurred and additional teams were deployed at the police station. Despite the curfew that was in place, people of the area engaged in a protest for about two hours. The Kegalle Police Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) arrived at the scene and commenced investigations.51 A young person had been arrested by police in connection with the incident and a number of lawyers had arrived at the police station to represent him.52 Casualties reported from the previous day included thirteen people who had been injured when the police tried to disperse protestors at Rambukkana and were receiving treatment at the Kegalle Hospital. According to the hospital director, three persons were in critical condition. At least fifteen police officers had also suffered injuries and were receiving treatment.
