ACTIVITIES IN SABAH AND SARAWAK (a) Sabah Office In cooperation with the Federal Complaints Bureau of the Prime Minister’s Department, the Sabah Office promoted human rights education in five districts, where it also recorded complaints on alleged violation of human rights. To expose youth to the concept of human rights, it visited two Community Learning Centres established by community organisations with the help of PACOS Trust, a local NGO, to provide indigenous children with equal opportunities to receive pre-school education. The centres are in Kampung Kipouvo and Kampung Kibunut in the Penampang district. In addition, the Sabah Office organised a Cultural and Education Festival in conjunction with Malaysia Day from 7-9 September. This enabled the Commission to raise awareness of human rights by reaching out to different communities, particularly those living in rural areas, and to promote the Commission’s work. (b) Sarawak Office The Sarawak Office organised five human rights activities in collaboration with the Dayak Bidayuh National Association, Central Prison of Sri Aman, Police Training Centre and College of Nursing, Kuching. The programmes will serve as a stepping stone for future activities to educate the public on their human rights. 38
