④ Subsequent to the completion of interview phases 1 and 2 and on the basis of the
draft transcripts, two analysis meetings on the transcribed texts were held in which
all researchers participated.
(3) Survey research
The research team conducted a survey to remedy the difficulty of studying the reality
of human rights violations faced by women in North Korea, China and other countries
of sojourn directly in the field, as well as to examine and compare the survey data with
the contents of the qualitative in-depth interview study. For the survey, the research
team visited Hanawon on the 4th of April 2009 and collated data from 248 female
trainees. The organising sections and contents of the standardised questionnaires, as
well as the distribution of respondents with regard to specific items, are provided
below.
