Focus Group Tool Develop long-term outcomes and indicators When to use Focus Group 2, Session 3 Purpose To develop long-term outcomes and identify related indicators linked to the strategic gender priorities identified in the previous focus group session. Time 45 mins Resources Large sheets of paper, marker pens, pre-prepared definitions of outcomes/indicators. Gender Strategy Priorities Timing Activity 5 minutes Setting the scene Explain the purpose of the exercise - to develop long-term outcomes and indicators for the strategic gender priorities. Overview the following definitions: •L  ong-term outcomes describe the change you want to see. • Indicators are how you measure progress toward that change. Present the selected strategic gender priorities. 20 minutes World Café Each strategic gender priority is written on a big sheet of paper. Participants, in groups of 2 or 3 participants, spend two minutes at each sheet of paper writing what they think ‘good would look like’ for the priority. At 10 minutes (when four rounds are completed), each group reviews what is on the sheet of paper in front of them and drafts a long-term outcome. 4 minutes Long-term outcomes are shared 10 minutes The same group then reflects on the outcome and develops no more than 3 indicators 4 minutes Indicators are read out 2 minutes Explain how these outcomes/indicators will inform the draft gender strategy (If there is more than one focus group, they will be collated with other group results) Gender Strategy Toolkit 2026 69
