Adoption by States Parties of temporary special measures aimed at accelerating de facto equality between men and womenshall not be considered discrimination as defined in the present Convention, but shall in no way entail as a consequence the maintenanceof unequal or separate standards; these measuresshall be discontinued when the objectives of equality of opportunity and treatment have been achieved. 2. Adoption by States Parties of special measures, including those measures contained the present Convention, aimedat protecting maternity shall not be considered discriminatory. a States Parties shall take all appropriate measures: (a) To modify the social and cultural patterns of conduct of men and women,with 2 view ® achieving the elimination of prejudices and customary and all other practices which a= basedontheideaofthe inferiority or the superiorityof eitherof the sexesor on stereotypes roles for men and women; (b) To ensure that family education includesa proper understanding of maternity 2s 2 social function and the recognition of the commonresponsibility of men and women & Se upbringing and developmentoftheir children, it being understood that the interestof = children is the primordial considerationin all cases. z Nestea States Parties shall take all appropriate measures,including legislation, a a to suppress all forms oftraffic in women and exploitation of prostitution of women. PART Il hae States Parties shall take all appropriate measuresto eliminate discrimination womeninthe political and public life of the country and,in particular, shall women,on equal terms with men,theright: (a) To votein all elections and public referenda andto beeligible for election to all elected bodies; 'b) To participate in the formulation of go governmentpolicy and the implementation theres*: to hold public office and perform all public functionsatall levels of government . (c) To participate in non-governmental organizations and associations concerned wt public andpoliticallife of the country. pts States Parties shall take all appropriate measures to ensure to women, on equal terms with men and without any discrimination, the opportunity to their Governments at the international level and to participate in the work of intematonal organizations. Article 9 1. States Parties shall grant women equal rights with men to acquire. change oF retain their nationality.
