Experience of the Independent Commission for Human Rights in Palestine (ICHR) - Presented by Mr. Islam AlTamimi, Director of Awareness & Training Department a. The importance of working collaboratively ICHR has made clear that the Covid-19 pandemic necessitated a collective response and cooperation among all stakeholders, including national human rights institutions. Health conditions were also assessed, the executive staff engaged in an effective emergency response mode, and the work has been done to review all interventions that to be focused in following up on developments in the epidemiological situation. Moreover, the response included the monitoring of the performance of government agencies and urging them to ensure the inclusion of human rights in all of their activities and operations in the context of facing the pandemic on the one hand, and respecting public rights and freedoms under the state of emergency on the other hand. During the crisis, the Independent Commission for Human Rights continued to forge partnerships with educational and security institutions and civil society organizations. In this context, ICHR issued a note to the Prime Minister regarding social stigma due to the spread of the pandemic on the one hand, and the spread of false data and information on social media on the other hand. This strengthened the Commission’s role in continuing to build partnerships and advocating non-discrimination against children and adults during the crisis. b. Targeted training In a bid to stress the need to consider gender-specific issues in the context of prevention and protection measures and the participation of women in the decisionmaking process, a capacity building activity entitled: “Women human rights defenders” was planned, with a focus on training a group of female defenders of human rights to monitor and report violations related to health or domestic violence, and to use national and international protection measures and mechanisms to address these issues.
