MEETINGS WITH GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS & INTERNATIONAL AGENCIES:           Member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa held a meeting with an MPA Mr. Wilson Wazir belonging to a minority community. The meeting was held to discuss issues regarding the minority community, and to establish a working relationship between the MPA and NCHR’s Regional Office to protect and promote the rights of minorities in the province. Member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Coordinator held a meeting with the Secretary Social Welfare Department KP and with Ms. Aysha Bano (MPA PTI) KP Assembly. During the meeting grievances of persons with disabilities were discussed in detail especially the fact that the legislation – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Bill, 2021 – has been pending for a long time. Member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Coordinator attended “Meeting of Referral Committee of Human Rights Institution”. The meeting was chaired by Chairperson, Provincial Ombudsperson Secretariat, Protection Against Harassment of Women at Workplace, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Coordinator participated in meeting of Provincial Harassment Watch Committee (PWC) which was presided over by Ombudsperson Ms. Rakhshanda Naz. During the meeting, Member NCHR Khyber Pakhtunkhwa informed participants about the role of NCHR and Harassment Watch Committee of NCHR which has recently been notified by Chairperson NCHR. NCHR Khyber Pakhtunkhwa team held a detail meeting with Mr. Aslam Nawaz - SP Investigation Peshawar & Focal Person of Peshawar Police for NCHR. In this meeting the overall human rights issues were discussed in detail especially the issue of a brutal murder of a transgender person in Mohallah Jhangi, Peshawar. NCHR’s team also visited Khan Raziq Police Station, Peshawar and held a meeting with Officer Incharge Investigation (IOO) to be briefed about progress in the case of the murder of a transgender woman. NCHR KP team visited Mardan and paid a visit to Dhera, a resident of the transgender community of Mardan, Saddar Police Station Mardan, and Mardan Medical Complex, regarding the recent target killings of transgender community members of Mardan. There were two recent incidents where two transgender persons were brutally murdered and two were severely injured. A consultative meeting of Member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was held with Director, Regional Directorate KP, Ministry of Human Rights in his office. The director briefed NCHR’s team about working of Regional Directorate KP MoHR. A decision was made to pursue human rights cases as well as to jointly pursue the pending legislation for disabled persons. Member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Coordinator held a consultative meeting with IG Police KP. A one day “Provincial Workshop on Human Rights” was organised by NCHR KP in Swat in collaboration with local NGO LASOONA.
