SUB JAIL CHARSADDA, 2ND NOVEMBER 2022
NCHR’s team visited Sub Jail Charsadda and met with the superintendent. The capacity of the jail
was approximately 210 prisoners but was holding 463 inmates at the time of the visit. The team
visited the barracks, kitchen, and medical facilities to ascertain that they were hygienic and in good
working condition. While the jail did not have its own medical laboratory, the jail administration
was in contact with a nearby hospital to attend to its prisoners’ medical needs. There was no library
available for the prisoners.
SUB JAIL NOWSHERA, 8TH NOVEMBER 2022
NCHR’s team visited the jail and met with the superintendent who briefed the team on the status
of the jail. There was severe overcrowding with the jail housing 390 prisoners when it only had the
capacity to hold 170 prisoners. The team visited the medical dispensary and laboratory where
prisoners receive medical attention. The jail was also linked to a nearby hospital in case of further
tests or consultations.
DISTRICT JAIL KOHAT, 15TH NOVEMBER 2022
The NCHR team visited the jail and were briefed by the superintendent. The team visited all the
barracks in detail, and spoke with prisoners who did not voice any concerns about the behaviour
of the jail administration. While prisoners had access to a telephone to contact their families, there
was no library available for the inmates.
CENTRAL PRISON MARDAN, 1ST DECEMBER 2022
The NCHR team visited the jail and were briefed by the superintendent. The jail experienced
overcrowding, holding 2398 prisoners where it had the capacity for 1998. The barracks and medical
facilities were inspected. The jail also had sports facilities for juvenile prisoners and education,
literacy, and skills development facilities and a library for inmates.

human rights situation of the hospital.
NCHR KP team visited Akhorwal, Darra Adamkhel, District Kohat regarding inquiry of
Akhorwal Mines.
