2.8.3 Ada Derana media channel receives criticism Contrary to the advice of the Magistrate, Sinhala media channel Ada Derana revealed the identity of the witnesses (including eye witnesses) of the Rambukkana shooting case on their media channel. The media channel received criticism on social media for not following the instructions of the Magistrate.74 2.8.4 Details of ammunition used at Rambukkana The special police team appointed to investigate the Rambukkana shooting revealed that the firearms and ammunition used by the police officers during the protest included four T-56 firearms and thirty-five rounds of ammunition.75 2.8.5 IGP summoned before HRCSL IGP C.D. Wickramaratne along with several other police officers was present at the HRCSL with regards to the inquiry into the shooting at Rambukkana.76 At this inquiry, the IGP stated he did not give instructions to open fire at the protest. He also stated that he had ordered the police officers not to use firearms at any protest being held across the country.77 The IGP, Senior DIG for the Central Province, DIG for the Central Province, SSP for Kegalle, and the OICs for Kegalle and Rambukkana were all summoned before the HRCSL. The HRCSL team appointed to conduct the special inquiry into the Rambukkana incident comprises SulariLiyanagama, Menaka Herath, Lal Weerasinghe, and A.S. Nilantha, and they had left for Rambukkana for the inquiry.78 2.8.6 Proceedings in Parliament regarding the Rambukkana incident Public Security Minister Prasanna Ranatunga informed Parliament that preliminary investigations conducted by the police revealed that ASP C. W. C. Dharmaratne and SSP K. B. Keerthiratne had reportedly instructed police officers to open fire to control the situation in Rambukkana on 19 of April 2022.79 ‘Ishara M.
