Preface Jordan acceded to the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities as of 30/3/2007. After a year of that date, Jordan ratified the Convention to announce its commitment to achieve the provisions and objectives of the Convention. Jordan did not only ratify the Convention with no reservation on any of its articles, but rather affirmed its commitment to the Convention at the national level through publishing it in the Official Gazette, to become an integral part of the national legislative set. Accordingly, Jordan amended the Disability Welfare Law No. 12 of 1993 and replaced it with the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities No. 31 of 2007. In response to the aspirations of Jordan to realize positive achievements in this area, the NCHR addressed the Cabinet to appoint a national action team that includes representatives of civil society institutions, academicians, persons with disabilities, and activists in this area for the promotion and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, taking into account the geographical distribution of representation1.
